NPR Mistake Reminds NC Victims How Dangerous It Would Be If Roy Cooper’s Soft-On-Criminals Litmus Test Were the Standard for the Next SCOTUS Nominee
RALEIGH – NPR (National Public Radio) usually does all they can to help prop up Democrat senate candidates like Roy Cooper, but today they accidentally reminded NC crime victims how dangerous it would be if Roy Cooper’s Soft-On-Crime Litmus Test were to be the standard for the next Supreme Court nominee. Earlier today, NPR mistakenly announced that US Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito would be retiring. While this report, like a lot of NPR “news” reports, turned out to be Fake News, the false report does make folks think about judicial nominees, both the good and the bad. And Roy Cooper has made a lot of bad ones.
Candidate Cooper is always seeking to distance himself from the record of Governor Cooper and with judges, it’s no different. Candidate Cooper is desperate for voters to not realize how much his judicial selections have sucked over the years if you’re the type of citizen who thinks violent criminals should spend more time in jail, not less. But if you’re a Radical Leftist who wants criminals back on the street as soon as possible, then you love Governor Cooper’s record of nominating soft-on-crime judges across North Carolina.
Let’s look at Governor Cooper’s record when it comes to his judicial appointments:
Governor Cooper appointed Dorothy Hairston Mitchell to be Durham District Court Judge in 2021. Judge Mitchell is the same judge who chose to release Ryan Camacho in 2025 despite his 20 prior arrests. Camacho then went on to murder a beloved Raleigh teacher, Zoe Welsh.
Governor Cooper appointed Kendra Montgomery-Blinn to be Durham District Court Judge in 2023. Judge Montgomery-Blinn is the same judge who chose to release Shyrone Evans in 2025 for only $15,000 after he was arrested for strangling and punching a woman, and went on to commit murder.
Governor Cooper appointed Tracy Hewett to be Mecklenburg County District Court Judge in 2017. Judge Hewett is the same judge who chose to drop the bond of a rape suspect from $2 million to just $50,000 in 2022, telling the suspect, “We’re gonna help you out.”
“Governor Cooper’s record with judges is like the rest of his record, it sucks and caters to the Radical Left. Whether it be judicial appointments at the District Level or all the way up to the NC Supreme Court, Cooper always appointed soft-on-crime judges. Voters rejected his NC Supreme Court appointment, Cheri Beasley, in 2022 when she ran for Senate because voters didn’t like her record of coddling criminals. NPR will never report these facts, but folks need to know the facts are that Cooper and Beasley share the same belief system. Today’s NPR fake news is a good reminder that judges and justices really matter. Cooper has proven time and time again, his litmus test for judges is ‘Which one is the softest on crime’.” said Michael Whatley.
