CRAVEN COUNTY – Today, Michael Whatley, local sheriffs, and local elected leaders hosted a press conference to discuss why law enforcement organizations are backing Whatley’s campaign. Topics included Governor Cooper’s tragic decision to prematurely release violent offenders and how most of these criminals ended up back in jail.
Whatley was joined by Carteret County Sheriff John Nyberg, Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes, NC Senator Bob Brinson, and other local officials.

“Roy Cooper allowed thousands of violent felons out of prison and back onto our streets. As soon as they were released, these hardened criminals assaulted, raped, and killed innocent victims across our state. There are 25 families across North Carolina who will never again see their loved ones because of Roy Cooper’s disastrous decision to free their killers,” said Michael Whatley.
